Hybrid endoscopic full-thickness resection of an appendicular laterally spreading tumour - 2.º Classificado (Fotografia)

A 69-year-old woman, with no relevant medical history, was referred to our department after identification, in screening colonoscopy, of a laterally spreading tumour, granular homogenous, with 30mm, centred in the appendiceal orifice. The peripheral portion of the lesion was removed by piecemeal mucosal resection, while endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR, Ovesco Endoscopy) was performed on the central portion invading the appendix. Follow-up was uneventful. The EFTR specimen contained the transected appendix; histological analysis showed a tubulovillous adenoma with low-grade dysplasia. EFTR is a minimally invasive alternative to resect appendiceal lesions; this hybrid approach enables exceeding the size limit of the device.
