A 67-year-old man with dysphagia and a history of smoking and high blood pressure was referred to our department on suspicion of esophageal neoplasia with negative biopsies for malignancy. We performed a new endoscopic evaluation with Lugol’s and NBI chromoendoscopy. Between 30 and 38 cm, circumferential papillomatous involvement of the mucosa, with 3 larger vegetations, with areas suggestive of dysplasia with chromoendoscopy. Histology revealed papillomatosis, with areas of hyperkeratosis, without dysplasia. The patient was referred to surgery (Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy) with histological diagnosis of diffuse papillomatosis of squamous cells of the verrucoid type, with areas of verrucous squamous cell carcinoma.
