Endoscopic reconstruction of an oral feeding route using a rendezvous approach - Menção Honrosa (Fotografia) Ricardo Rio-Tinto, Sara de Campos, Paulo Fidalgo, Miguel Bispo, Susana Marques, Jacques Deviére Fundação Champalimaud A 75-year-old male patient with aphagia due to long-standing esophageal discontinuity resulting from several surgeries and chemoradiation for a hypopharyngx squamous cell carcinoma, that ended in a major cervical amputation, construction of a neopharyngx and definitive surgical closure of the superior esophagus with a PEG placement. With a rendezvous technique (peroral and through the gastrostomy) and under radiographic guidance, the neopharynx was punctured into the distal esophagus, followed by balloon dilation and covered metal stent placement, to reconstruct a neoesophagus; no complications occurred. The stent was later removed. The patient is able to eat soft food without using the PEG.
