Colonic egg?

70-year-old male presented with rectal bleeding. At colonoscopy we detected a hard yellowish 5cm submucosal lesion in the sigmoid colon. Bite-on bite biopsies were made. 30 days after biopsies, the patient expelled a 6cm yellowish oval mass trough the anus followed by mild rectal bleeding (hemodynamically stable). At sigmoidoscopy we detected edematous mucosal folds with a clean-base ulcer and mild persistent bleeding at the same site. Histology – lipoma. Lipomas’ spontaneous expulsions are rare events. Possible mechanisms are slippage of the lipoma from a tear in the mucosal layers and rotation and necrosis of the pediculum.
