Through the needle wall biopsy in pancreatic cystic lesions

Filipe Vilas-Boas1, Pedro R.Pereira2, Guilherme Macedo1

The diagnosis of pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) is increasing in the general population. Current management is based on imaging and cyst fluid analysis but we are not able to diagnose the specific type of cyst and its malignant potential in a significant number of patients. In this video we show how a specifically developed forceps (Moray® micro forceps (US Endoscopy)) used through a 19G FNA needle can be used to perform cyst wall biopsies to obtain the histologic diagnosis of pancreatic cyst type and dysplasia grading. This new endoscopic modality may allow a better management of patients with PCLs.
